The YCW works to create a society, which actively supports, respects and values the God given dignity of each person. We will consciously uphold basic human rights, especially the right to meaningful and just work. We will educate for global awareness and solidarity. Through taking action and reviewing in our communities, young people will discover the deepest meaning and mission of their lives.

GETTING ACTIVE IN YCS AND YCW

Are you a pilgrim looking for more after WYD08? By joining or starting a YCS or YCW groups or project you can:

  • Be a witness by living out your faith in action
  • Hook into an international movement that will support your faith and keep you connect to young people all around the globe
  • Deepen your spirituality by reflecting on your daily life through the eyes of your faith and the Gospel.

How are you using the gifts you have been given, the “power” which the Holy Spirit is even now prepared to release within you? What legacy will you leave to young people yet to come? What difference will you make?....
Dear young friends, the Lord is asking you to be prophets of this new age, messengers of his love, drawing people to the Father and building a future of hope for all humanity.

(Pope Benedict XVI to the world's young people of the world at the WYD Mass)

YCS and YCW are local, national and international movements of young people who are answering the call to be prophets of a new age by building up peace, love and justice in the world and in their own lives.

In Australia YCS is a movement of high school students whereas YCW is for young workers. Both movements are run by the young people themselves.

For more on YCW click here. YCS has its own website to help you find out more about the movement .

Getting started with YCS or YCW

There are two ways you can get involved in either YCS or YCW. If you are in a diocese where the movement is already active, you can join an existing group or project, and link up with a ready made faith community in action.

You can also start a brand new YCS or YCW group in your parish, school, workplace, uni or neighbourhood. You can do this in a diocese with an existing YCS or YCW, or in one where the movements are not yet active. A new group can be a great way to support your WYD pilgrim group to keep meeting. It can also engage other young people, whatever their WYD experience and wherever they are in their faith. Through the ‘see, judge, act' process YCS and YCW balance reflection and action, so they meets the needs of a broad range of people, including young activists, church-goers and people who are not sure about their faith.

Both YCS and YCW have easy-to-use resources to help you out. Current leaders or staff in active dios can also help you to plan your new group and connect you to others in the movements.
