The International Young Christian Workers (IYCW) movement, is today releasing their report titled "Social Protection - Our Right", to mark its annual International Week of Young Workers and May 1st Workers' Day and to promote participation in a global campaign demanding the right to social protection. This appeal is run in conjunction with the YCW's celebration of International Week. Regardless of the amount, everyone is asked to donate one day's pay. It is an act of solidarity with workers in the many countries where YCW is active.

YCW DEMANDS INCREASE TO FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE
COUPLED WITH COST SAVINGS

The Australian YCW believes an increase to the federal minimum wage coupled with increased cost savings and services would ensure young people live above the poverty line. Cost savings and services could include increases in superannuation payments, public transport subsidies, government provision of affordable housing for young people, more easily accessed health cards or private health insurance subsidies, better access to child minding facilities and access to affordable or free education and training. YCW PAST MEMBERS MAKE SUBMISSION TO AFPC
The Young Christian Workers Past Members Association also made a submission to the Australian Fair Pay Commission emphasising that vulnerable employees need to be cared for by society. They stated "we must ensure workers wages that enable them to procure the basic necessaties in life." Read More...
